When the Levee Breaks
I saw him on a drowning shore, and watched amazed as he, unmindful of the sea lapping up to his ankles, harangued those who sought to flee to higher ground. Who tried to push back, to somehow fight the rising tide.
Caught in his tirade, he seemingly failed to appreciate that he was sunk to his waist, happy enough to point his finger and shake his fist. I first thought to gain his attention, but reconsidered and walked away, up into the dunes, safe for now. I turned and watched him calmly adjust his tie as the waters claimed him.
